Rail Conflict

Diagnostics

After 36 years, we've seen every variety of miscalculation, layout error, and miscommunication of design.

Original plan dimensions rarely have the needed accuracy to layout walls, landings, and stair well openings correctly. Problems regularly occur with headroom issues, landings, winder alignments, wrong radii, wrong floor to floor dimension, etc. Typically, this creates issues that force the stairbuilder to redesign the staircase, frequently with rough framing modifications. Don't let these problems slow you down. We are known for our ability to problem-solve nearly every issue quickly and accurately. All you need to do is remember to call us!.

Headroom

From changes to wall heights, floor joists/trusses, or finish floor covering thicknesses, there are a variety of issues that can change the headroom clearance on a staircase. We can give you the corrected rough stair well opening length to allow for code compliant headroom clearance. You can use this information to adjust joist placement to get back on track.

Stair Length

It is incredibly common for a staircase to end up too long for the planned space. We can quickly give you your options for correcting the problem, by adjusting the staircase and/or framing dimensions to solve the problem.

Winders

Winder treads can present a lot of code problems. Especially on L-shaped and scissor stair layouts. We recommend that winders be avoided on landings, but if they must be used, we can help position them correctly for your code requirements, and let you know of any adjustments needed on stair flights to correct the stair layout.

Handrailing

Common issues we solve include newel post positions and heights, rail heights, baluster layouts, baluster patterns, volute positioning, and tangent rail problems.

Balustrades

We correct baluster layouts, patterns, radius balconies, panels, and cable issues.
